V :A:V:TVide : Aude : Vole : TaceKnow, Dare, Will and Keep Silent
This document does not concern itself with the origins of the Fundamental Formulae of the Magi, herein shall the author attempt only to clarify its implications. As it is a formulae, it must be followed in its specified configuration without variation, to do so it must be understood in clarity. Thus it would be unwise to dare if you do not know you can accept the challenge, to not Will it if you dare not live with it, and to not speak of it if you will make great things happen. To Know, Dare, Will and Keep Silent has long been the creed of the Magus, and has long since remained one of the best known creeds of all time to all Magi, regardless of magickal order. It remains unbiased, non-specific and inclusive to all magickal operations. To not follow the formulae will leave magick and life to chance. In Luciferian Magick as in all magick it is imperative that you Know, Dare, Will and Keep Silent the work. To instill this creed as a viable formulae for the Great Work (Opus Magnum) will assure successful operations. Though it is easier said then accomplished without fully understanding the implications of the formulae it shall each be elaborated upon below.
VIDE: (Know) The Latin terms for ‘know’ are diverse and many. Thus to avoid implicating any specific branch or field of knowledge within the Luciferian Order, the mind of knowledge is symbolically composed in the All Seeing Eye. To See with the mind and know of things beyond the senses, is not just facts, but that of an inner knowledge, an assimilated knowledge; the source of knowledge; gnosis. Thus the selected term for knowledge herein is Vide, which is derived from videre:(in gen.) to see, but (transf.) To perceive by other senses, i.e. the mind (which involves all the senses as well). Therefore, to know implicates more then just knowing the textbook version of a magickal operation, for a greater knowledge is required from the inner source to be effective. A greater knowing(sciens) of the operation that leads toward Self knowledge, wherein true power is revealed.
AUDE: (Dare) The word dare is indeed multifarious, and like the previous ingredient a key to the formulae of magickal operations. For to dare is to Challenge, to confront, and to change the normal habitual life patterns. To break free from the self prison and become free, free from the bondage of the mind of all, and find the mind of the individual. The challenge does not come from an external dare, but an internal challenge to ones self to change and/or make something happen. An experience inflicted upon ones self to strengthen, broaden and invigorate the body, mind and soul. Magick takes courage to experience, otherwise one would shut it out. As many do and will continue to do. Only do many go so far, until they get scared and at such a point will turn from it completely or modify it to something more comfort zone compatible. Dare to experience all life has to offer, even death when the time is come. Only the most daring will dare to believe without doubt, in thyself.
VOLE: (Will) The term Vole is the shortened expression of voluntas, equivalent to volition. In order to manifest magick or anything for that matter, one must be willing. ‘I will’ is never to be used lightly, to produce the magickal effects of the Will. The sum result of any work will be the total force of the Will’s power applied. It can be understood that there exist a lower will and a Higher Will. It is toward the Highest Will of the Individual that ones work progresses. The lower will of the foolish mind is weak, and distracted. The Higher Will is of the Higher Self. The Higher Self is over the self and will utilize the lower will toward its own progression. Therefore, within the inner source of being exist the highest sense of Self, that is confined to it inner kingdom. There it rules, and though the lower self participates in the world and sacrifices a part of itself to be a part of the world, its will shall never override the Will of the Self. In lay terms, though you think you want something; deep within, you know that something is not what you need to your Self. Therefore, it is a good choice to endeavor to come to know ones True Will.
TACE: (Keep Silent) Tace is taken from tacere which means to keep silent. This last ingredient is proprietary and often not adhered to in magickal operations. As many can not control their tongue to express their own greatness, and others cannot keep quiet for they seek the approval of others. And so the magickal operation fails to reach its fullest power, and the energies of the work are dissipated prematurely by proclamation. For to speak of the work, invariably states aloud that the work is accomplished, and thus the energy shall hence be redirected elsewhere where it is needed. Therefore, it is imperative that no discussion of any magickal operations in process be thus spoken of until the work has manifest itself. To speak it is to claim that the work is complete, so, speak not of the work then, until it is complete. It is also important to keep silent to the secrets that are realized in the Great Work. Only speak of it to others of like mind, and in accordance. To speak of ones work to others who may not share such visions of greatness will inevitably incur negative energies from others toward ones work. To share ones work with others that are in accordance; however, generates greater power. Thus ensure all involved are adherent to the creed.
In closing, this creed, to know, dare, will and keep silent is encrypted in higher understanding as Vide:Aude:Vole:Tace. In all that one does on all levels of work, physically, mentally, soulularly, thus magickally, adhere to this creed and success will favor one in the Opus Magnum.
